Brewster: Budget Cuts Will Hurt Local Municipalities and School Districts

Harrisburg – Marzo 9, 2011 – Sen. Jim Brewster today provided the following reaction to Gov. Tom Corbett’s budget address:

“While spending cuts and better spending practices will need to occur at every government level, we must resist ‘passing the buck’ to local governments and school districts. The governor’s proposed budget cuts to education would force municipalities to raise taxes to make up for the loss of state funding to their school districts.

Brewster Urges Unemployed to Continue Filing for Benefits while Congress Debates Extension

McKEESPORT, Diciembre 10, 2010 – State Sen. Jim Brewster is urging jobless workers whose federal unemployment benefits have, or will soon expire, to continue filing for the weekly payments. “Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Labor has advised me that continuing to file should help expedite the resumption of payments if Congress acts,” Brewster said. “Knowing that many families are barely surviving with unemployment benefits, I urge them to make sure they keep filing – while we all pray that Congress acts soon.”

Brewster Takes Oath of Office as State Senator

HARRISBURG, Noviembre 17, 2010 — State Senator Jim Brewster took the oath of office today pledging to lead by example, fight for his constituents and work to create jobs and improve education.
Brewster, a Democrat, won a Nov. 2 special election to serve the final two years of the term vacated by former Senator Sean Logan. Logan resigned in Agosto to accept a position with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
