Harrisburg – Jan. 15, 2015 – State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) has been selected to serve as Democratic chair of two standing committees of the Pennsylvania Senate for the 2015-16 session.

“I am honored to be chosen to lead Democrats on both the Senate Law and Justice and the Game and Fisheries committees,” Brewster said. “Each of these committees handles tough issues with difficult subject matter that impacts the citizens of Pennsylvanians on a daily basis.

“It is a great honor to be selected to serve as Democratic chair of two important committees.”

Brewster said that in addition to his post as Democratic chair of Law and Justice and Game and Fisheries he will also serve as a member of the Banking and Insurance, Transportation and Policy committees.

“The committee chairmanships and assignments I received places me in a good position to craft policies to help our region,” Brewster said. “I look forward to working with both Democratic and Republican members and the new administration on new laws and solutions that improve lives for each and every citizen of the state.”

The Law and Justice Committee generally handles liquor modernization and Liquor Control Board issues while the game and fish committee addresses matters related to sportsmen and women, hunting, fishing and species preservation.

In previous sessions, Brewster served on the Banking and Insurance, Transportation, Policy and Game Committees. He said he will also continue to be the vice-chair of the Pennsylvania Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.
