Brewster: Officer Frank Miller Jr. Legislation Signed into Law
On June 20, 2014
Harrisburg – June 20, 2014 – State Sen. Jim Brewster’s proposal (Senate Bill 1225) to name the exit from the McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge to State Route 148 as the “Officer Frank Miller Jr. Memorial Ramp” is now Act 68, following its approval by the governor who signed the bill into law on Wednesday.
“I am grateful that the legislation was signed into law,” Brewster said. “As I have indicated throughout the process, the naming the ramp for Officer Miller and honoring his sacrifice on behalf of the citizens of McKeesport is meaningful.
“The naming of the roadway will serve as a permanent reminder of Officer Miller’s commitment, devotion and sacrifice.”
Miller was shot while walking his beat patrol in McKeesport in November 1993. In the midst of a scuffle with an assailant, Miller’s weapon discharged and he was killed.
“As former mayor of McKeesport, I know first-hand about the dedication and determination of our police, firefighters and first-responders,” Brewster said. “Officer Miller was part of a select company of individuals who serve the public and put their lives at risk each day to protect us.”
Brewster introduced the bill in January and it was approved unanimously in the Senate in May and in the House in early June.
