Harrisburg, August 2, 2013 – State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection recently awarded a Recycling Performance Grant to North Versailles Township.

The grant will provide the community with the incentive to recover more waste through recycling.

“This not only promotes better practices for the environment,” Brewster said. “It also promotes economic growth by expanding the recycling industry in the area.”

The nearly $8,400 grant was awarded to the municipality based on its need and size.

“North Versailles had almost 1,450 tons of recycled material in 2011,” Brewster said. “I’m pleased they get the opportunity to expand the recycling program thanks to this grant.”

This grant is in addition to the regular funds distributed by the Department of Environmental Protection to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.
