McKeesport – August 21, 2015 – The McKeesport Symphony Orchestra has been awarded a $2,103 grant by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, state Sen. Jim Brewster said today.

“The McKeesport Symphony Orchestra has been a key part of the arts community in the Mon Valley for years,” Brewster said. “I am pleased that the symphony will receive this grant so it can continue to provide wonderful music and enjoyment for years to come.”

Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) said the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts was established by statute in 1966 to enhance the arts in Pennsylvania. Its mission is to develop the “excellence, diversity and vitality of the arts.”

The grant program was started by the council in 1968.

“The McKeesport Symphony has contributed immensely to the quality of life in the Mon Valley and has been an asset to our region,” Brewster said.

The grant for the symphony was among a number of awards for groups throughout Allegheny County announced late last week by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
