Harrisburg – April 30, 2014 – School Districts, local governments, state agencies, corporations or businesses that operate diesel fleets have until June 10 to apply for 2014 Pennsylvania State Clean Diesel Grants, state Sen. Jim Brewster (D-McKeesport) said today.

“The grants will help local government, nonprofits and businesses who have diesel fleets run those vehicles more efficiently and remove pollutants,” Brewster said. “The grant program is open to governmental units plus nonprofits and businesses that are incorporated or registered in Pennsylvania.”

The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) administers the program. It is funded by an allocation from the federal clean diesel program.

According to DEP, the goal of the clean diesel program is to clean the air by reducing emissions from vehicles. The grants fund projects that retrofit vehicles with clean air emissions equipment in addition to the purchase and installation of idle-reduction equipment or clean energy vehicles.

“It is important for those who may be eligible to seek more information about the grant program,” Brewster said.
