Harrisburg, Sept. 27, 2013 – State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) was elected as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Port Authority of Allegheny County.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to take on a leadership role within the board,” Brewster said. “I take my responsibilities as Secretary seriously, and I’ll work diligently to help the Port Authority serve the Pittsburgh area in the most efficient, useful ways possible.”

Brewster was appointed to the board by Sen. Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) in August as a representative from the Senate Democratic Caucus. He is a member of the Senate Transportation Committee and represents communities for which public transportation is a significant issue.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues to harness the power of public transportation to build a strong economy,” Brewster said. “Public transit benefits our community immensely, and it is a part of my job to ensure workers and companies are able to take advantage of those benefits fully.”

The Port Authority of Allegheny County provides public transportation to approximately 230,000 riders throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County every day. The Authority employs about 2,400 people and is governed by the Board of Directors.
