Brewster Appointed to Allegheny County Port Authority Board of Directors

Harrisburg, Aug. 14, 2013 – State Sen. Jim Brewster (D-Allegheny/Westmoreland) was appointed for a four-year term to the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Allegheny County as a representative from the Senate Democratic Caucus.

“I’m honored that Sen. Costa (D-Allegheny) appointed me to this position,” Brewster said. “Public transportation has always been a priority for me, and I take this responsibility very seriously.  I’m prepared to draw on my past experience to help the Port Authority serve the Pittsburgh area in the best ways possible.”

Brewster is a member of the Senate Transportation Committee and represents communities for which public transportation is a significant issue. Along with this, Brewster gained experience making difficult financial decisions during his time as Mayor of the City of McKeesport and vice president at Mellon Bank.

“I understand that public transportation helps to build a strong economy by creating and sustaining employment.  This is good for workers and their companies,” Brewster said.  “Public transit connects workers to their jobs in urban, suburban, and rural areas.  The Port Authority also enhances personal economic opportunity by lowering household expenses.”

The Port Authority of Allegheny County provides public transportation to approximately 230,000 riders throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County every day. The Authority employs about 2,400 people and is governed by the Board of Directors.
